CORK SPECTACLES

Collaboration project with world’s leading cork producer Amorim, Taehun Ko determined to design the spectacle items including parts because of discovering incredible advantage of cork after the experiments. In addition, with the ideal properties for the eye-wear, according to the recent survey, sport is now regarded as the second largest industry world wide, and daily spectacle market also is massively huge. This project was supported by the world’s main cork provider Amorim. As a client, they provided general informations of the cork. However, for the further development, I experimented with several methods including turning, milling and laminating. Each cork polymer has different properties and it could be die cut and laminated. Laminating two to three different types of cork sheets enhance for appropriate strength of frame and support it. This processes are considered for actual manufacturing in Amorim’s facilities.

Cork has good properties including light-weight, shock absorbent, resilient, soft touch, thermal effective and flexibility, and these features is ideal for the winter sports spectacle. Compare to the plastic -PU- goggle frame, it gives comfort on your face and preventing issues occurred by low temperature environment. The cork sealer enhances the coating of its surface.
